118th Ojai Tennis Tournament — Friday Update

Pac-12 Men’s Semifinals

No. 1 UCLA 4, No. 4 Oregon 0

No. 3 USC 4, No. 2 Stanford 0

No. 3 USC 4, No. 2 Stanford 0

The Trojans will meet the Bruins in a repeat of last year’s championship match on Saturday at 3 p.m. USC won the doubles points, then got wins at No. 2 by Daniel Cukierman and No. 3 Laurens Verboven. The clincher was handled by Coach Peter Smith’s son Riley Smith at No. 5 singles.

No. 1 UCLA 4, No. 4 Oregon 0

With both teams spitting sets, it came down to the No. 2 doubles court with Austin Rapp and Keegan Smith pulling out a 7-6 tiebreaker win to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. The nation’s No. 1 player Martin Redlicki, Keegan Smith and Max Cressy quickly closed it out with straight-set singles wins.

Championship Match: UCLA vs. USC, Saturday at 3 p.m.

Pac-12 Women’s Semifinals

No. 2 UCLA 4 No. 3 Arizona State 1

No. 1 Stanford 4, No. 5 Washington State 0

No. 1 Stanford 4, No. 5 Washington State 0 (WEIL)

Defending champion Stanford took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles sets and No. 1 Michaela Gordon provided the clincher to send the Cardinal back to the championship match.

No. 2 UCLA 4, No. 3 Arizona State 1 (OVAC)

Past Ojai doubles champion Ena Shibahara clinched the match at No. 1 singles as the Bruins came back after losing the doubles point. Shibahara’s past Ojai Open doubles partner Jada Hart won at No. 2 singles and Abi Altick and Alaina Miller also added wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively.

Championship Match: Stanford vs. UCLA is Saturday at 12 noon.
