Here’s an update on action from #SCTA #JuniorSectionals ongoing this week in Orange County:

The Boys 18s doubles final (Sun., 2pm, Los Caballeros) will feature the #2 and #4 seeded teams after both advanced to the final on Thursday. The #2 seed Eshan Talluri (San Diego) and Siem Woldeab (La Mesa) advanced in straight sets, while the #4 tandem of Matthew Poh & Kyle Sillman (both of Manhattan Beach) reached an overtime thriller to reach Sunday’s finale.

An upset in Boys 16s saw unseeded Kevin Liu (Rancho Palos Verdes) race to a 6-2, 6-0 win over (5) Nathan Kwon (Bakersfield). Another #5 seed, Ilya Bolotsky of Camarillo, fell in three sets to Ventura’s Yovraj Narang, 7-6, 1-6, 6-2.

In Girls 12s, Rebecca Kong (San Diego) notched an upset win over (5) Natalia Mochernak of Del Mar, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the Round of 16. The top seed, Carla Pacot of Rancho Cucamonga, advanced in straight sets.

Match of the Day in Boys 12s featured (9) Tyler Li (La Jolla) remaining in the hunt after a 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 marathon win over Verdugo City’s Alex Galstyan. The #1 seed Steve Nguyen (Anaheim) also advanced with a routine straight set victory.
